For my project, I decided to make an event poster. My event poster showcased what every sorority has to do to add new members: recruitment. I thought this would be fitting for my first project because recruitment is the very week that put me where I am now. Recruitment is a very special event that helps girls find where they would fit best and feel most comfortable throughout their crazy experience of college. We started practicing for it last semester, then came back to school two weeks early for what is called “work week,” and then actual recruitment week. When I went through it as a potential new member my freshman year, I truly had no idea how much was put into it. All of the work that does go into it makes the girls that are trying to find their new homes not realize all the behind the scenes stuff. What I have shown in my project is a day of work week and two different days of actual recruitment week. For recruitment, the whole house comes together and works extremely hard to make sure that the next member class of girls is even better than the last. My design process was intended to show how it brought us all together in order to meet a goal, which was to find all new members who we could see leading the house. The elements I used to create my poster were photos that I would take with my friends each day. I found what I used for my background by looking up “cute background free for use creative commons” on Google. Some tools I used were stroke, drop shadow, and inner glow. I used stroke to frame each photo to make them pop, then I used drop shadow to make them pop even more. I also used inner glow to make the photos look like they were higher quality (they were all taken on my iPhone). I also put a stroke on the pictures into a lavender color, then put the opacity to 80, so you could slightly see the background through the stroke. I also put stroke and drop shadow to outline the letters of the words. For the background, I knew it was alright to use it because on the website it says, “Download free (do whatever you want) high-resolution photos.” The website was called The Creative Exchange and here is the link to it if you want to check it out: https://unsplash.com/photos/d2zvqp3fpro. I really enjoyed doing this project because I was able to reflect on my self-growth throughout recruitment and all throughout this past year I have been a part of Alpha Chi Omega.

Hi there! My name is Stephanie Hilliard, but I go by Steph. I am a second year college student at Washington State University and I am majoring in Communications. I am a part of a sorority here on campus, Alpha Chi Omega. When I am not doing my schoolwork, doing things for the house is what typically takes up the rest of my time. The reason why I am starting this blog is to post the media content I am going to be creating for a course I am taking this semester, COM 210. I am excited to be taking this class and be recording it all in a blog, so then in the end I can look back and see all of the hard work I have put into this course throughout the semester. A little bit more about myself, some hobbies and interests I have revolve around health and wellness, as well as music. I love exercising, yoga, and eating right. I try to exercise every day because it always makes me feel good after. I am taking yoga this semester, which I am excited about because normally when I am up at school I do not have much time to do it, but now I will get the chance to twice a week! I also always try to eat healthy because when I am healthy I am happy ☺. The kind of music that I love is EDM (electric dance music). I love going to festivals with my friends, those are my favorite kinds of weekends. So there is a little bit about me, stay tuned for more! View more posts
